O Lord, you are my God;
I will exalt you; I will praise your name,
for you have done wonderful things,
plans formed of old, faithful and sure.

Proverbs 3: 5 - 7

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. Proverbs 3: 5 - 7 NIV

Be Doers of the Word

Hearing and Doing the Word - Be Doers of the Word.. Obedience as a test of true faith.

Life whispers listen closely. Old woman said don't make god hit you with a two by four, just listen to the word, keep/save and do/act/work. Obedience as a test of true faith.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1: 22 ESV

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 7: 21 ESV

Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Luke 6: 46 ESV

But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Luke 11: 28 ESV

For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. Romans 2: 13 ESV

Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. 1 John 2: 7 ESV

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. Matthew 7: 26 - 27 ESV

Faith Without Works Is Dead

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good (Or benefit) is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? James 2: 14 - 20 ESV

Build Your House on the Rock

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7: 24 - 27 ESV

+++

But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.” Luke 8: 21 ESV

+++

If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. John 13: 17 ESV

James 1: 22 - 24 NIV

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. James 1: 22 - 24 NIV

James 1: 22 - 24 NIV
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror
24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

Commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

According to the Bible, to learn something is not enough—we must live what we know. Do you feel a burden for prayer? It does you no good unless you pray! Do you desire to study God’s word? It will profit you nothing until you sit with your Bible and heart open. This is the sin of the information age—we think because we’ve learned something that we are living in that truth. But learning is only the beginning of the journey. Don’t be enticed with the flood of information that is at our fingertips. Take the time to do what you know. There is a blessing waiting for those who do this.
